Goa University, established in June 1985 by an Act of Goa Government, is located on a picturesque campus spread over 427.49 acres area of Taleigao Plateau overlooking the Zuari Estuary, within close vicinity of the capital city of Panaji, in North Goa. Besides being the most important location for post-graduate studies, it also serves as the academic nerve-centre of the higher education system in Goa. Today Goa University, is a university of affiliated colleges, 55 of which are distributed across Goa, 30 in general education, 25 in professional education.

Admission to the Ph.D. Programme-March 2022
Applications for admission to the Ph.D. Programme offered at the University
Schools/Departments and Research Centres affiliated to Goa University shall be accepted online from
08/03/2022 to 25/03/2022. The list of vacancies in the respective subjects, along with the names of
the Guides and area of research and reservation are given at Annexure I and Annexure II.
Admission to the Ph.D. Programme is governed by Ordinance OA-19A of this University which
is available on the University website www.unigoa.ac.in. Interested candidates are required to refer
to Ordinance OA 19A and this Notification for details including eligibility criteria before applying.

ELIGIBILITY
(i) Candidates who have obtained a Master’s Degree or a Professional Degree declared equivalent
to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks
in aggregate, or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 point scale(or an equivalent grade in a
point scale wherever grading system is followed), or an equivalent Degree from a foreign
educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is
approved, recognised or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in
its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing,
accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible to
register for the Ph.D. Degree
(ii) A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be given
for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy Layer)/Persons with Disabilities and other
categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those
who had obtained their Master’s Degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The relaxation of 5%
to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks
without including the grace marks.
(iii) The subject of research shall be that which relates to the main branch/ branches of knowledge
chosen by the candidate for the Post-graduate Degree. However, a candidate wishing to
conduct research in a subject of an interdisciplinary character shall also be eligible for
registration. The applications of such candidates shall be considered by following the procedure
set out under OA-19A.2(ii). The Candidates are permitted to apply for a maximum of three
subject.
(iv) The following conversion formula shall be followed as per Ordinance OA-16 for candidates of
Goa University. Other University candidates shall also follow this formula in the absence of a
conversion factor provided by their parent University:
a. Conversion from Grade to Percentage. The following formula shall be used to convert from
Grade (CGPA) to equivalent Percentage.
Percentage = (CGPA – 0.75) × 10
b. Conversion from Percentage to Grade. The following formula shall be used to convert from
Percentage to equivalent Grade (CGPA).
CGPA = (Percentage / 10) + 0.75
Admission to the Ph.D. Programme for the March 2022 session is open to the following candidates:
(a) Candidates who have qualified in the Examinations of apex bodies such as CSIR-UGC/UGC NET
JRF/lectureship, SET/SLET/JEST/ICAR-NET Examination of different Indian States/ GATE with a
valid certificate, those having DST Inspire fellowship, or those awarded M.Phil. Degree as per
the UGC Guidelines.
Students who have completed M. Phil by distance mode are not eligible.
(b) All the candidates who have qualified in the Goa University Ph.D. Entrance Test (GU-PET)
conducted by this University held in the month of December 2020 and August 2021.
(c) Senior Citizens who are otherwise qualified but exempted from appearing at Ph.D. Entrance
Test. However they will not be issued an Equivalence Certificate.

e) EWS Category candidates are required to submit a certificate issued to that effect by the
Officer of the rank of the Mamlatdar or any other Authorized Officer as notified by the
Government of Goa.

SELECTION PROCESS:
While grading the candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme, a weightage of 70% shall be
given for the Entrance Test and 30% to the performance in the Interview/Viva-Voce. A Candidate
shall be required to score a minimum of 50% marks at the Interview. (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC
(non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled Candidates, or other categories of Candidates as specified by
the State Government).
(i) Candidates who have cleared any of the National or State Level Tests like M.Phil/NET/SET,
JRF/SLET/JEST/ICAR/ICMR-NET/GATE/GPAT etc. shall be admitted by normalizing their
marks/score/ percentage in such tests with respect to 70% component of GU-PET.
For normalizing the marks obtained in the National Level and State Level Tests, the
following formula shall be used.
Normalized % Marks = 70 – [0.45 x (100 – Obtained % Marks)]
Provided that in case of the Candidates who do not possess the Certificates of the National
or State level tests / fellowships mentioned above showing the score earned by them, the
percentage score obtained at the Master’s level shall be considered for normalizing.
In case of candidates with GPAT score, the marks shall be calculated by dividing the GPAT
score by 5 and then normalised using the above formula.
In case of candidates with M. Phil. normalized marks shall be equal to percentage marks
scored by the candidate times 0.7.
(ii) The actual marks scored by candidates at the GU-PET shall be treated as normalised marks.
(iii) There shall be two rounds of interviews; the first one for candidates who have qualified
the M.Phil/NET/SET/JRF/SLET/JEST/ICAR/ICMR-NET/GATE/GPAT/ Examinations and the
second one for those who have answered the GU-PET and Senior Citizens.
(iv) Senior Citizens shall be deemed to have scored 50% marks in the GU-PET.
(v) Candidates shall be admitted to the Ph.D. Programme in the respective
Schools/Departments/Research Centres, only against the predetermined number of
vacancies announced in this Notification.
(vi) In case of a tie in scores, preference shall be given to those who have been awarded JRF in
the CSIR-UGC/UGC NET Examination, followed by DST Inspire, M.Phil degree holders, NET,
SET, SLET/JEST/ICAR/ICMR-NET/GPAT over GU-PET qualified candidates in that order. If
the tie still persists then the interview performance shall be used as a tiebreaker.
